   1) how is it possible to be admitted to harvard's program in 2018 before August 2017 (the date this article published)? is deferring the admission possible for harvard econ?

   2) f**k anyone who suggest potential phd applicants to take advanced math classes such as measure theory, real analysis etc.

   I would like to work with Ms. Wu in the future. I believe the criticism she gets here by many of you guys is plainly wrong. Remember, she was just an undergrad when she wrote that paper. How many of you have done that?

   I kinda agree with you. What is amazing that thread I made about this got deleted. I don't like Wus paper, but I don't like attacks against her as a person either. She is just an undergrad, I don't want to be too harsh against her.

    harvard guy here. I assure you this PC garbage won't fly at Harvard. The faculty will treat Wu fairly but they've seen enough of their own members ruined by feminist garbage and personal attacks to develop a fair sense of skepticism toward her premise.

    Also, there are reputation consequences for pushing an aggressive "meta-academic" agenda on flimsy evidence. Academics in general frown upon that. Just because 20% of academics vocally support your effort while 80% of academics remain silent (lacking incentive in creating a controversy) doesn't mean you're benefiting from pushing that agenda. It's very likely that a majority of econ PhDs and academics have unfavorable views about Wu as a student due to the controversies around the paper. The best thing she can do for herself is to back away from some of the media hype generated by her advisors, acknowledge the empirical shortcomings (therefore showing herself to be more competent than some of the faculty supporters), and try to work it into an objectively valuable publication instead of backdooring it into a top 5 journal without actual merit.

    She is harsh herself, and carefully calibrated all her "errors" to be even more harsh. I'd like to see her shut out of the profession and sniffing for dried lizards in the dirt. That's exactly what she deserves.

    Are you f**king kidding me? You think an undergrad's entire future career should be ruined just because you disagree with her critique of a message board that you like to post s**t to?

    You people are truly pathetic. Wu was admitted in 2017, through normal channels. According to the leaked admissions spreadsheet, she had near-straight A+s, with a transcript that was heavy on math. She was not a member of the incoming class, so must have chosen to defer for a year. This happens occasionally (e.g., a member of the current G1 class did the same a year previous).

    Now can you please, for the love of god, stop harassing this woman out of our profession?

    You guys are quick to judge... How many of you held stupid political beliefs or wrote really stupid stuff you thought was gold when you were 22? You're around 30 now, and I'm betting you have become a much more mature, thoughtful person with more nuanced thoughts about how the world works.

    I hope she proves everyone wrong and becomes an aspie theorist. If she stays with the cuteonomics esjdubya stuff and still gets an HRM placement yeah that will kind of suck. But it's far from guaranteed and I'm betting just like everyone, she'll grow a lot as a person and as a researcher in the next 5 years.

    I hope this happens too. Only time will tell. The good thing is that she will be (hopefully) further separated from the biased advisor who pushed her to validate his ex ante views and exposed to actual economics.
