New York Times: EJMR is a hotbed of misogyny
-
Why is everyone so goddamn offended/sensitive nowadays?
I'm a g.a.y bro who has posted here for past five years, and racked up 5-10 100 good trolls in the process. There's plenty of homophobia on EJMR which I suppose I could view as offensive, but I don't really give a s*** because I think it's laughable/stupid when it is sincere, and otherwise is just a joke/rub and isn't meant to be nasty.
Maybe I sound like a token g.a.y orange-man supporter. I dunno...I'm just really uninterested in this kind of stuff.

Exactly the sexist and racist folks don't make sexist racist posts. They do that in real life.
People here are simply making deliberate statements to offend the PC mind controlling fools.
And it is mostly otherwise in jest. Why is everyone so goddamn offended/sensitive nowadays?

This is too difficult for the Wu types to understand.

My comment just got deleted but here I am again:
Journalists: Create a sensation out of nothing, knowingly or unknowingly - they are paid to do it.
Most readers of the NYT: Wow, economists are horrible people.
Cheaters and plagiarism experts: EJMR has a bunch of trolls and they just love to whine - REVENGE time for them.
Economists: Wu study is just an undergrad exercise, ignore it.
EJMR people: How do economists read the Wu paper and not condemn the hype created about the findings from nothing? The things that the NYT hyped up cannot be verified - the study does not just have "limitations" but rather is "flawed".

I like you. We should hang out sometime, maybe get some ramen.

I, for one, welcome our new PC/Antifa/Social Justice/Feminist-Overlords and -Overladies who have probably hacked our IPs by now!
Chinabros just call them baizuo.
In any case they aren't the overlords of anything as this stuff causes them to lose support and elections.
But they get to feel morally superior on Twitter, so there's that.

But can we now say that the economics profession has a serious problem with how women are treated based on the findings? Um, no. That's what you are not understanding.
Everyone critical of her study actually seems to misunderstand the study. She might as well as be taking averages. The site is overwhelmingly hateful, and anyone who spends two seconds on here knows that.
-
People here are not critical of the study because of that. Nobody is denying that there's lots of hateful content here. What people are saying is that you can't make a conclusion about the entire profession based on such a dubious sample. And if you can't figure out why there are problems with the sample and the conclusion, then you are either not an economist or just dishonest.

You just generalised the behaviour of an entire group of people who visit this site based on a small % of posts which are supposedly sexist because they seem to use words like hot along with females more than economics terms.
This is how you define sexism and racism. People who generalise the behaviour of an entire race or gender based on their limited knowledge and experience with them.
I'm aware this is a political issue rather than reality but try to think about how we all think. It's more or less the same. Specially blaming one type of people by generalising is what we do. We prefer to blame other people for it except ourselves.

I guess EJMR is sexist, but it was way way more sexist when I started lurking here 4 or 5 years ago, when the "Reminder" threads thrived. Now it's just kinda boring and empty. The parity troll and a few other trolls pretty much disabled the site.
Nobody wants to hear it, but the CMTs were never the problem. In fact, a lot of the effort to combat them backfired, by pushing away all but the craziest CMTs.
Lastly, I've guessed I'm in the top decile most economisty posters on this site, insofar as I've actually taught nonzero college economics sections, and have a master's in economics and a job that would be considered a decent nonacademic placement on EJMR. (I also am fairly well informed about economics in a "reads a lot of NBER working papers" type of way.) But I wouldn't consider myself an economist, nor would most people describing me professionally in real life. Using this site to generalize about the academic side of the profession is just idiocy.I went to a strong MRM school and most profs were on EJMR and openly admitted to it.

This. Right. Here.
The "study" is tone-deaf, actually deaf, and blind, yet we're to follow it down its dangerous path.
