It's okay. When you teach Singaporean undergraduates from Singaporean "unis", you will quickly realize these people are even more s**tlike than the foreign PhD students.
Singapore is a nanny state where the government is held to a very high standard by the public. Their political leaders have an incentive to promote the idea that local universities are at least as good as the best universities on earth, which is why they have made it their priority to play the ranking game.
To any sensible Singaporean, it should raise red flags when:
(1) NUS has not won any Nobel Prizes, even in fuzzy ones such as Literature and Peace
(2) The government has a national scholarship system designed to send students overseas
(3) Children of political leaders rarely attend local universities
(4) They had to pay vast sums of money to rent brands such as Yale and Duke to create frankenstein schools to fool the public
Now, if NUS were any good, the government would not be spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on tuition for their scholars to attend LRMs like UIUC, King's College London, UCL, and UCLA.

The fact that Singaporeans think NUS is any good just demonstrates the success of the marketing campaign of the SG government.

As a non-Singaporean Yale-NUS grad, it puzzles me why couldn't a new name be created instead of this mashup that is awkward and embarrassing in equal measure.
