Athey's work in ML is Wager's work. He is the driving force.

I have a question: Hausman was considered a favorite years ago, but why is he never considered nowadays for the Nobel? (Same with Vince Crawford)
Probably because if he was going to win it, it would have happened when microeconometrics had its due (McFadden, Heckman). Most important work of roughly the same vintage as them, etc.
