   UT Austin is pretty strong in IO, McCombs finance pays way more than Wisconsin Econ, Austin is a big city while Madison is small. Wisconsin ranks slightly higher but this is understandable

   Didn’t the wiki say they both had offers from Wisconsin though? If so, why not go there? Or perhaps my premise is off. Don’t mean to gossip, but genuinely curious.

   The one who went to UT Austin actually had an MIT econ offer (marone) but turned it down for her husband.

   Good placements, especially for a year like this.

   WTF, Columbia is even worse in terms of placement, on average. Also, SJ’s students are typically super smart and place horribly just because she writes them terrible letters.

   Also heard similar things regarding SJ. Heard one of her previous student didn’t manage to schedule a meeting with her for almost an entire year due to her unresponsiveness. Almost everyone at Northwestern says SJ is the worst advisor

    It’s pretty understandable that an applied student chooses Columbia over NWU. A theory student will not do the same. So SJ is complaining about her cohort?

    I can't speak to theory/macro, but their students on the applied side (applied micro/development/history..) are pretty bad. The least imaginative kind without a bit of charisma.
