tsk tsk... so much racism on this board... so much to learn...
Oh look, affirmative action hires of color to replace all these racist white men, perfect.
I don’t think he’s a racist I would say he’s just not very smart at PR
Exactly. Let's take this example:
***
“Discrimination and racism is wrong,” Mr. Uhlig wrote in an email. Later, he added: “I would love to have more black economists (or is it ‘Afro-American economists’?) among our undergraduate students, Ph.D. students and faculty. It is my impression that the good ones are highly sought after. We also have very few American Indians among our colleagues. We need to find good way to change these numbers.”
***
I mean, this is just making it worse for him. Why on earth did he send this off to a journalist and not have somebody else read it first. The dept secretary, a student, really anyone would have advised him to rephrase it. Chicago's PR people should check in on him.
from the article:
"There are no black professors in the main economics department at Chicago, Mr. Uhlig’s employer, which is one of the most storied departments in the country."
there are also no native americans, pacific islanders, central asians, ...
Why are economists so bad at math when it comes to issues they don't like?
There are millions upon millions more African Americans than native americans, pacific islanders, or even central asians, which makes the lack of African Americans, quite peculiar. Especially when you consider that many African Americans are descendants of people who were here hundreds of years ago.

Yeah it's crazy. I mean they have perfectly good economists in the countries they came from.
Endorsing Trump does not mean endorsing everything he says, any more than endorsing Biden would mean endorsing everything he says (including his many deceptions). Thanks for your comment Ken but this is a bad example.
Yeah, endorsing Trump means endorsing incompetence, divisiveness, dictatorship, racism and lies. Other than that, nothing.

The "white men" angle is annoying because the junior echelons of economics are actually fairly diverse in terms of origins - it's not the 80s or something anymore.
There are almost zero black economists, that's true, but there are also very few, say, white economists from a poor or evangelical background.

It's the arrogance that he has. He is Aryan and doesn't think there is anyone equal to him.

Nope, for instance, some of us think that even male college students deserve due process, and welcome the changes to Title IX that have come under this administration.

K
Can you dispute the fact that Title IX was reformed? Can you dispute the fact that it was an improvement?

The editor of a top academic journal faces calls to resign after criticizing protesters as “flat earthers” for wanting to defund the police.
I keep on have to remind myself that I'm not reading the Onion magazine. Its getting tiring, it really is
I'm strongly against cancel culture, but Uhlig really does his best to come across as a good German Na//zi, I'm sorry to have to say that. Is his emotional intelligence really that low? Or is he trolling us?I can hardly imagine how close-minded you must be.
I know right, being against Cancel Culture, sure sign of being close-minded
