I haven't been paying much attention and I have a kneejerk "what you're doing is pointless" reaction to protests as it is. This, however, has some pretty intense stories: http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/
Occupy Wall Street
-
A fair number of these protesters are spoiled dipshits that are in search of a cause and couldn't explain to you what it is that they are demonstrating for. I definitely think the balance of power in this country unfairly favors the "masters of the universe" on Wall Street, but unfortunately, the half-retarded recent college grad that is pissed that he doesn't earn 100k a year with his degree in advanced bassoon performance make this movement too easy to dismiss.

These are not the 99%. They are the lower quartile to lower half. As one person said: We are better off than 90% of the world. OK, so why the hell are you complaining then?
Read their stories, but it's clear that many of these people either made poor choices or were unlucky. What they want is to eliminate bad luck and to have poor choices absolved. That cannot and should not be done, ever.

not surprising to see a bunch of sleazy frauds in cahoots with the bankers as part of the greatest con in history putting down the hipsters for their protest. College has become a HUGE scam and there is no reason why tuition should have grown at 400% the rate of inflation. you should all thank the heavans that American youth are so naive and brainwashed that they aren't burning down your precious ivory towers at this very instant but give the recession a few more years and that's exactly what will happen when the education bubble bursts.
-
**** you, man. College will ruin you for life? That's a pretty good sign that maybe you SHOULDN'T GO TO ****ING COLLEGE.

There is no justifiable reason why college should be so expensive. professors are the ultimate rent-seeking losers.

I'm a grad student, you ****ing imbecile. I am just a few years removed from your "innocent 18 year olds", and I know for damn certain that I wouldn't get a ****ing degree in Advanced Saxon Literary Buggery if it involved amassing crushing amounts of debt. This is because I don't have a pickled radish in place of a brain.

The problem is that most people were told that a college degree was a fast track to a middle class livelihood. That's easy to believe when it happened for your parent's generation. But it's obviously not the case in reality.
It's not the fault of Wall Street. It's the fault of bad guidance counselors, stupid kids who weren't paying attention when I told them they needed to get some actual skills while in college, parents who are out of touch, bad advisors while in college, and structural change in the U.S. economy.
