   It's a bit like venture capital. The median number of publications 5 years after the PhD is zero, even after top PhDs. The average is much higher.

   What do you mean by star? Is everyone with a CHYMPS job a star? Everyone tenured at CHYMPS? I'd say no. Given that, I'd say your probability is pretty much 0.

    I was the best economics undergrad at my non-flagship state school, I think by some distance.

    I went to an MRM school and was mediocre, I'm now tenured at a SLAC. I have pubs, but none of any note whatsoever.

    Your feeling of competence conveys no useful information unless you're at an elite undergrad or have connections with elite professors.
