Hope this happens. Deadwoods are holding valuable TT positions that should go to productive researchers.
Who cares? Econ research produces nothing of value to society. Teaching is the only real utility of an econ dept.
People who want to get a job at institutions who have deadwoods? Is this a serious question?

Would not be a bad idea. Academia has already become so commercial and researchers have become influencers, not the scholars they used to be.
If scholarship is the goal, it would not help to place professors on short-term contracts such that they are evaluated by admins every three or five years based on observable outcomes and fired if they don't perform...

What would happen if professors were placed on short-term contracts such that they are evaluated every three or five years based on top 4 journal publications, and then fired if they don't perform. Most current faculty would get fired, and replaced by NTTs or stars?
