I thought I would easily be invited to the written part. I already work in an international organization with 5-10 years of experience and solid research and policy work.
OECD Positions (MAIN TOPIC)

Can anyone speak to what it means when references are checked?
I applied for a position and have made it all the way to reference checks, which they did a week after my interview, a few days ago.
Now nothing....withdraw button still there.
Would they check references of people they aren't planning to hire? What about if they only planned to roster them?
ALSO, I cannot seem to find any lists of which countries are over/under represented- does anyone know?
Thank you:)I'm in the same situation. Any insight would be much appreciated!
Same as in you’ve had references checked? Which post?

same here
All of us? Oh that may not be as promising as I'd hoped. For what role? Mine is 13802.
Oh...then I guess it's really not as promising as I had hoped too. Mine was also 13802.
Well, I will post here if I hear anything... (this is the same person as the OP). Maybe they are making a pool. Or hiring lots.

Thanks. I hope they hire both of us!

Well, they might! I had heard they'd expanded the call, meaning more than one person would be hired. So...assuming there aren't more like us out there...maybe! Fingers crossed:)

Fingers crossed:)Fingers crossed, indeed! :) But did they check all three of your references? I don't think all my references were contacted...

Unless it is the World Bank/IMF, I don't believe you. Solid research in international organizations does not exist.
WBG and IMF have research departments of the size of econ faculties at respectable schools. The OECD does not have this.
However, the average WBG or IMG country desk economist has not more solid pubs than the average oecd country desk economist.

I know of one for sure, not sure about the other two.References are always contacted at the end of the process.
But does it mean you'll get the job (with good references), or do they contact references for several candidates?
