it's disheartening to see demonstrated failures (seasoned AP with 0 pubs) getting hired over demonstrated successes (candidates with pubs/R&R).
FYI, Whistle-blowing is an alternative to stop this. I made it clear to my dep chair he is not hiring none without a pub if all jmcs with pubs are interviewed.
That is hilarious. I can just imagine an assistant professor coming to me and dictating who we must select for his competition. I bet you made the dept chairs day - that is just funny!! We want to hire the best person - the one we think we will be successful in publishing, teaching, and service. Of course research is the main one but we are not to trying to maximize publications in year 1 in the top 3 but over the next 10 years. Personally, I would tell you to please go ahead whistle, I would personally make the reservation for you in the provosts office.
