Nobody knows whether there'll be sufficient demand for accounting faculty in 5 years (or 6, since you haven't even applied yet). This is why it's important to enter a PhD program for the right reason: you truly want to spend decades of your life doing research AND teaching in the area.
Based on your answers, you sound like you're interested in accounting because you heard it pays well and has a relatively less competitive job market. From my experience, many people who manage to enter PhD programs with your mindset leave after 1-2 years because they entered for the wrong reasons.
So my honest advice is, find some other career where you can use your "other skills."

The market will probably get better than it is this year, but I don't think it will go back to where every big 10 school places all of its students in 3-0 research schools. Even this year, 4 candidates turned down our offer before we had one accepted, and we didn't shoot crazy high.
There is a drop in college enrollment coming up in 2026 because of fewer births during the 2008 recession. I wouldn't aim to graduate that year.

I have never heard of research school using this filter. This sounds like something at a small, relatively low endowment, liberal arts school. None of the schools where I have worked have even considered such an idea. If only looking for teachers the pool is deep and wide, so this type of constraint is probably not that costly. If looking for researchers then this is a very costly constraint. Given the salaries for researchers in accounting this seems quite shortsighted for a school. NO it is NOT. Its an old advertisement and many got hooked up then and trying to survive NOW after 5 years of horrible accounting phd program. Bro, accounting academia is dead, there is super oversupply and is not worth it. The system is corrupt and I hate it. I REGRET I started this program and like you I was influenced by the ads and here I am without a decent job...
