Tax reviewers and editors resulted in Bird and Karolyi getting published at TAR. It’s a joke how easy it is for a tax paper to get published.

which field is easier to find a job? i am deciding between experimental and auditing.
That’s not a real distinction. Experimental is a method: auditing is a topic. You could do experimental audit research.
Regardless, don’t try to be strategic. Research is hard. You won’t be successful unless you are really lucky or really love what you do. So follow your interests.

Names? Oh wait, you can’t name any because they do not exist.
Rookies are tr@sh. Better to hire seasoned as you can sort type. Seriously. The “top” school graduates have grossly underperformed the past five years.

I know a couple of rookies with better portfolio than many seasoned out there. They exist, you will soon find out.

Experimental has gotten hard to get participants and reviewers are demanding more and more experiments. Archival is hard because of the insane amounts of worthless endogeneity and other tests that reviewers demand (and easy datasets have already been heavily mined). To go back to the good old days, when a 2x2 was enough and OLS was enough for archival. I wish we stopped believing that economic voodoo actually means something. It's such a waste!
