If I do not have too many AMA interviews, should I signal this to schools at AMA and tell them that it is very likely that I will accept their offer if they make me one? Or would that backfire instead? Is it better to not reveal anything?

More often than not, something like that will not work. You are "very likely" going to accept the offer means nothing. Everyone (including you) knows that you will accept another offer from a better school. Also, HRMs already know (or at least would like to believe) that you are "very likely" to accept their offers; so there is no new information for them. LRMs will mostly consider it cheap talk. Some MRMs will be swayed by it if you can credibly signal your intent. THe problem, however, is that it is very difficult to credibly signal to one school that you are very serious about it without jeopardizing your chances at other schools.

At AMA, I’d consider your willingness to accept as a negative signal. On the campus visit, it could sway me.

Instead of saying you are "very likely," indicate it by learning all about the school, the city, etc. and thinking of real reasons you'd like to go there.

Pointers to succeed at AMA?

Be friendly, but serious.

Practice your talk with a diverse group of people. Write down all of their questions and prepare and practice responses to all of them, especially the ones that come up most often. In the actual talk, defend your theory/methods/etc. if you're challenged, but don't be "defensive." Sometimes people will challenge you not because you're wrong, but to see how you respond and if you've thought about the potential issue they brought up. Acknowledge good questions and take them seriously. "I don't know, but I can check that" or "I don't have data that could address that question, but here's how I could test it" are acceptable answers (just make sure that you actually follow up on them).

Make your slides relatively minimalist and easy to read from across the room. If you have a complicated model or figure, try to strip it down to the most important parts or spread it out over multiple slides.

Don't try to jam your entire paper into a 30 minute talk. Better to be clear about a few big ideas than to rush through everything. Just show enough to convince the people in the room that the ideas in the paper are important and that you know what you're doing.

Write thank you notes. I think it's dumb that people weigh these things so seriously, but they do.

You'll be lucky if you have a table on which to put your presentation. It will most likely be on your lap.

A binder in your lap in fine. Just buy A BIG ONE so that we can see. Do NOT use an iPad -- that's torture for your audience.
