An A pub does not guarantee a placement in an R1, so an R&R definitely doesn’t guarantee this. I’m at an R2 and we regularly hire rookies with A pubs.
Now, there is a caveat (as others have said): an A pub in Quant (MS) is worth more than an A pub in Strategy (JM) or certainly CB (JCR). There are just more CB rookies out there.
It’s not a flat distribution. You’re extremely unlikely to fail the R1 market with more than one A in r&r. I can think of exceptions. But those are exceptions moderated by extreme personality problems or other issues. If you’re remotely normal, having an R&R will get you a job all but a few people in the field think is good (top 50 or so).
The hard truth is no one really knows. No one knows if you need an A. No one knows if you need this advisor or that advisor. The market even before COVID was not that predictable outside of a Stanford/ Wharton person getting hired at Stanford/ Wharton. Everything else is up for grabs. So maybe you and all of us would be better off ignoring all the advice. Do the research because you love doing the research. Since there are no guarantees, don't work on anything you don't love, and don't work with anyone that doesn't love you. Go on the market when you want. Go off the market when you want. Just realize that none of us know anything, and we're all just guessing. It's freeing.

Do CB people ever publish in Mkt Sci or QME?Yes. The (few) folks trained in cognitive psychology can get information search work published in Marketing Science (Dan Ariely's Wine Online paper is in there, for instance).

Not very different in the US, where you pay federal + state + county (sometimes plus city) income taxes, SS tax, Medicare tax plus all kinds of insurance premiums
