He is pretty snobbish and thinks he is better than he actually is. He appears fair when he thinks you are in the loop, otherwise you are doomed if he is the editor.
PM is a legit scholar, that's why
Speaking of seniors there... how is PM as
YOU are a "good egg"
He is sharp, knowledgeable, professional. Also the consummate insider who likes horsetrading, but not in who publishes and who doesn't. In other words, very good as an editor.

LOL: no. Know all the seniors there. Letters very strong. Core teaching great. They have an executive committee that decides, plus the deans, plus the provost... did she suck up to all of them? Yeah, she can be difficult, but not close to the most difficult person there.
Me apparently. Though I don’t feel like it

Thanks, but I was just calling it as I see it. Like everyone else, he has his strong and weak points. Someone else called him snobbish, and that's true, but if you look at papers he's accepted (I don't know which he rejected) it's not only from famous people. He handled a couple of mine and was very fair, even if the overall outcome wasn't so positive. Don't think he'd give me the time of day at a conference tho.

you're seeing multiple answers cause there are multiple ways of doing it. some schools have public salary info, others don't. some schools have the 1-2% increase to everyone (that is minimally performing) and then another limited 1-3.5% usually percentage that can be given at the discretion of the dept chair (and should be performance based). some schools only give a big raise if there is an outside offer, some would still not match no matter what. some schools have bigger raises when one is promoted, others only have modest raises. some places have unions that make salaries pretty much the same across levels. some schools adjust salaries of people with more years in to match the incoming rookies salary and account for market trends, others don't
New AP here: do salaries get a yearly boost to catch up with inflation?
No. But schools will boost your salary to keep you.
only if you have a competitive outside offer
And you have to be ready to go if they don’t match. Otherwise you’re worse off than you were before. My school has an explicit outside match policy btw. Basically administrative. I don’t know if that’s common, I think it’s an equity thing (so that you don’t get heterogeneity across departments in match probability)
In all seriousness, for top 100 UTD schools, Erasmus (quant), NUS (quant), SMU (behavioral), Maryland (open), and Georgia State (open) have ads out. Maybe a couple more will come up. But none of the schools this board likes to gossip about are hiring.
What do you think this is? The job market thread or something?
Any new job offers coming out?
We love to gossip about Georgia state but they blew that department up.
SMU and Maryland are looking at rookies? That would surprise me. Unless it’s Singapore SMU and not cocaine SMU

I remember Maryland failing to recruit anyone last year. Did they just repeat a same mistake again, or are all the top candidates actively avoiding the place for some reason?
