Teaching at a business school pays twice as much and you do half the work as teaching in any high school. There are lots of good balanced and teaching schools in great places to live. Having a phd in our field means that you can always have a really good life. Let's stop fear mongering. Not being in an R1 job is more than fine.
I totally agree with this. If they would have me, I would totally work at a teaching school after I retire from my uni. I really enjoy teaching, and would love to focus on this more.

I agree. JMR is very bad for quant papers. I would try many other journals before submitting a paper there.

Schools at UTD 50-100, there are plenty with 2-2 loads (or less) and paying 180K+, and many in places with low cost of living

CB folks: do you have to submit an IRB protocol for "every" experiment that you plan to run? How do you manage the time it requires to get the approval?
Depends on the school. A lot of people write a couple blanket IRBs that cover a broad set of IVs and DVs. If it’s exempt (and most things we do are), then at a lot of schools you just need to add an addendum to the IRB. If you’re going to do anything that increases the likelihood of harm or works with protected groups (children, prisoners), then you need to do a new IRB.
There’s supposed to be an automated tool as part of the new rule governing IRBs that got implemented 2-3 years ago. That hasn’t happened. But at this point the review for behavioral research, once it’s judged minimal risk, should be brief.
People don’t push back against their IRB offices enough IMO. HHS rule 45 is very clear what the process should be for exempt, low risk research, and some peoples’ offices ignore it.
