   In some ways this is good- quant candidates have useful skills for industry and policy. In some ways this is bad. SEC would love to hire marketing quants, but no one should look there to work.

   Prediction: the 2023 market will be very good for candidates due to the backlog of positions plus recent senior/seasoned moves.

   Prediction: Market for rookies will continue to be poor, schools will continue to fill positions with advanced AP and senior hires, top school quants candidates will continue to head to industry rather than heading to lower tier schools.

   A couple people having their fee fee’s hurt that QME only counts at Stanford doesn’t make it better than JM, no matter how loudly they say it.

   If it were fundamentally true, you wouldn't get much or any pushback. It's obviously not fundamentally true. Different schools clearly have different preferences over journals. You are a troll.

   That is because the bar is higher in JCR/JMR/MS than JM. Yes, it is true that some schools consider JM an A, but some don't...while all schools consider JCR/JMR/MS to be A. So, all else equal, a publication in JCR/JMR/MS is more valuable for those on the market than a publication in JM.

   Nothing shorter than 30 pages…. I’d say nothing longer than 60 but you know and I know the page limits are more of a joke than a suggestion (consumption and the extended self is 125 I think, I’m not sure how CCT people sleep at night making reviewers wade through that crap)

   Are you implying someone with multiple JM’s would do worse than someone with multiple QME’s? That’s pretty aggressive- and manifestly untrue as people with JM R&R’ have gotten Wharton and A&M in the last three years (just in terms of availability bias) and I can’t think of anyone on the market who had a QME. In fact, it’s hard to compare to QME because no one has them-probably because their advisors want them to try somewhere else first. (I count three posters telling you, the one QME nutter, to slow your roll- might be wise to take that advice, given who posts here)

   QME publishes about 15 papers a YEAR. JM probably publishes 100.
   To publish in QME someone at Chicago/Stanford/MIT or Rossi must like you, generally. Thus it is probabilistically less likely to see a candidate with QME. But it makes no sense to compare JM and QME. It is like comparing AJS to Annals of Physics.

    I don’t know about improve- the market cleared normally this year, I haven’t talked to anyone whose students failed, it seems better than two years ago, maybe even better than 3 years ago. Let’s say “return to mostly normal. “ For that to happen I think we’re going to need in person AMA. I don’t know what the status is on that. So far all the conferences I typically attend after the spring are “planning on in person” and it’s getting to the point where stopping that would be expensive.

    If Omicron is done and dusted now, as it appears to be then all the shutdowns and circuit breakers schools are doing right now will be over with before the end of the spring semester. Right now a lot of the constraints are due to staff being out of commission- and that really will affect schools ability to post jobs. if all that is over and done with I think we’ll have a normal market for a couple of years before the cliff.
