Apparently not what? Stop f**king with the thread, you have no idea what you're doing with your google translate abilities, deleting harmless posts and leaving the thread without any structure

I'm not using Google translate. A bunch of Portuguese posts were reported, so I deleted them. I can't rely on OP to always be around to moderate this thread. So please keep it to English if you are concerned about thread structure.

In that case please stop relying on some dumb undergread who's reporting everything. You (or some other mod) deleted the list of Brazilian candidates in the market for example. It was just a list of initials and departments. If we can't use this board to list job market candidates then what is it for?

What the hell? The thread was going fine. People who are reporting lots of posts are the real trolls here, not the ones who are actually posting. You shouldn't assume some posts should be deleted only because some random troll reported them!
Estimados colegas,
Alguns exemplos:
- Economia Brasileira Contemporânea (Giambiagi et al.)
- A Ordem do Progresso (Marcelo de Paiva Abreu)
- Conversas com economistas brasileiros
Boas leituras: http://gen.lib.rus.ec/

I restored a post. Hopefully it was that one. But there were literally 48 deleted posts (mostly deleted by OP) to choose from in current log, so it's hard to tell. You have to be realistic about the time that mods will commit to a foreign language thread.
Don’t justify yourself for these filthy anons
How many students from UFRJ were placed in top 50 programs in last 10 years? Probably none. If you want to apply, take ANPEC exam next year e go to a top4.
Do you guess that UFRJ (economics) is better than IMPA(professional) or EE/Puc (academic)? In terms of Applications power.

I am sure that if you are the best student from your cohort, you will be placed in a 60-40 program.
And if you take some courses in EPGE and PUC and acquire a nice 3rd letter talking about your coursework and motivation, a 50-40 is surely possible
Maybe, what you suggest is out of my range...
I've written this before in the old thread and I'll write it again:
If you can't do reasonably well in a top 4 program in Brazil, doing a PhD in a top department in the us will be a miserable experience in the best case, and you're unlikely to get an awesome job. The probability of being kicked out and leaving with (or sometimes without) a PhD is not trivial.
If you can't even get into a top 4 program, that's even more true.
I understand you might still want to take a chance and prove me wrong. The way to do it is study hard, get into a top masters, and do well there. Especially if what you really care about is learning about economics instead of simply getting a label, "I got my PhD in another country".
If instead you're really all about that label and spending some time abroad (which is fine and rational), then there are probably easier paths. But then you don't need to worry about status. Below the very top, no one in Brazil will be able to tell anyway.
