Elon would have to rebuild trust and also show continuous meaningful improvements to the platform.
However, there are probably other ways to keep the platform free and extract >$1 value from each customer from other methods. WeChat does this.
WeChat is a spyware that, in exchange for providing all these free services, looks through everything in your phone and beyond. Twitter only hands over your data when they receive legal requests from the government or police, which is a bad thing too, but not on the same level as how far WeChat is willing to stoop.
WeChat may seem useful because it's a superapp that Elon Musk hopes Twitter will become, but that's never gonna happen. There's a lot of analysis and articles detailing why.
anyone who would pay $.99 would pay the $8 or w/e for twitter blue and vice versa. This is absurd beyond belief thinking people would be ok with a cheap option. Perhaps trialing twitter blue with a 'free 14 days' or w/e would be ok, but making a .99 mandatory would be a 'lolno' for all but the most dedicated lonely people (not a small but market) but also have money (much smaller market).
