Open discrimination against male economists by Claudia Sahm
-
Claudia is a good person who used to be friendly with EJMR, until bunch of anonymous cowards drove her away with unwarranted hostility.
What she is doing is not discrimination. She generously provides free advice to JMCs but obviously her time is finite. She cannot do this for everybody so the offer is limited to a sub-group of people. If she had said I only offer the service to JMCs in my state/city would there be any issue? I bet not.Hi Claudia. Glad to see you are still visiting EJMR. Thank you for openly signalling that you are sexist.

What a horrible example (the previous poster in quote). What Claudia is proposing is gender discrimination; this is totally different from giving preference to states or cities that have both men and women (in addition to other demographics). Claudia what a piss poor example.

A senior US government economist should not, using his or her government platform, be discriminating on grounds of gender.
Oh no, someone left the gate open and now all the whiny manlets are out crying because someone decided to exclude them from something.
So you get your tiki torch out when there’s discrimination against women by us government employees as well?

Pointing out the hypocrisy of someone so ostensibly obsessed with “inclusion” and “equality” is not whining about being excluded. She can exclude anyone she chooses, but in so doing she cedes the moral high ground she likes to pretend she occupies.

What if someone said "men macro job market candidates .. I would be happy to comment on your JMP" without having any direct influence on the actual process of a journal acceptance, as a free service?
- Think about this way. Would you donate to a privileged group or underprivileged group? Women fall under the second category due to being underrepresented in the economics field, so it is OK in my book. But if you said "I am going to read JMP of men macro job market candidates from specific underprivileged group", that's fine with me too.

Yeah, god forbid she tried to do something to address the historic disadvantage of women in economics.

Who is more underprivileged, a female PHD candidate at Harvard or MIT or a male doing a PhD at Emory or Alabama?

A female PhD at Harvard or MIT wouldn't need her service. They already have access to famous economists or resources. If you are a good macro economist and can offer your service to those underprivileged men in Alabama, I have nothing against it and would applaud your service.
