Not rejected... Wow! Never expected this... :)

Serious question: why is QJE a top 5 journal? It only correlates with zip code (Granted quality and zipcode can be confounded at times).
But considering that:
1) very few Nobel worthy papers have been published there relative to the other 4
2) JPE despite being a Chicago journal is way more eclectic in its choicesWhy do we still treat that rag seriously?

Why do we still treat that rag seriously?Everyone submits there because it's fast. In my experience, Katz also gives more sensible comments than his counterparts at other top 5s. All in all, you feel like you've had a good experience even when you get rejected. So everyone submits there first.

Raise your hand if Katz found your paper ‘fascinating’ but rejected. Yeah, he’s predictably nice.

I agree. QJE quality is lower than top field journals, let alone top general interest journals.
