Bajari will stay at UW, but he will not teach. What's the point of staying if you're never around, even not teaching?
You keep your title
This is GREAT news for UW.
Bajari's influence was very distortive and the chair was using his name (and connections to amazon) to bias the hiring decisions in detriment of non applied micro and IO fields.
Hopefully, Zivot will leave for good soon.
UW is a solid institution (top in stats, in CS, in public policy and other social sciences) that shouldn't have place for the hybrid professor-amazon employee that doesn't take his academic position seriously.
The usual placement at Amazon of our graduates will not be affected if these guys remain just as occasional adjuncts as Geweke or Greg Duncan.
This is for the BEST! and will help push UW above the 35th place it's stuck at the moment. There is no structural reason for it not to share the 30th spot with the other institutions/depts of his level.Oksana, please stop it
Hey Jacques/Fahad, you should stop it! In terms of leadership capabilities and academic excellence, you are much below most of the previous UW chairs
Oksana at lunch time.

This thread is a good example of how vile this forum is. Just full of personal attacks against anyone remotely related to the department.
Using pc stuff to silence discussions and freedom of speech is also common. You are basically suggesting that people don't have the right to express different opinions
Can any insider please elaborate on what exactly he has done that destabilized the department?
Oh, that department has always been a mess. Bajari has little to do with it. But most of its messiness is because of infighting and Bajari has strong opinions, so having him around has probably just poured gas on the fire.
He's been a bulldozer in setting up the Amazon economists group. His approach is highly effective in the corporate environment but doesn't translate well to academe. That's part of the reason he went to Amazon in the first place.
I would love to read more about the history of the Amazon econ group. Can any insiders comment or share an article?
