Which is best for an econ phd? Interests are in macro and international.
Penn State vs Rochester vs USC vs ASU
-
Probably PSU>ASU>Rochester>USC
PSU - The best placements and more depth in Macro
ASU - Small cohorts and good placements conditional on their ranking
Rochester - Used to be the best department on the list, but nowadays is a very small department in a shitty place
USC - At least one tier below the other options -

Man, I would still think roc>asu. But it’s clear that penn is the winner. Rochester moves around a lot, depending on who’s there or whatever. I guess that’s confusing for applicants. But, if I were a professor and you asked me where was a better place to work I’d say roc, obviously.
Having said that. There is some local connections among schools. So if you particularly liked some are near asu it might be a better choice. But, that should be like an epsilon consideration in this.

Half of you say USC is the best of the bunch. The other half say it’s the worst. Why is that?
USC also happens to be in the by far the best place to live, especially compared to state college and Rochester. How does it compare to ASU, location-wise?USC is a MRM/LRM with a bunch of trolls pumping it up on this site, hence the divergence in opinions.
