Your cab driver will agree that teachers seemed to be “normal” before—family men and women with family values—but now are increasingly unhinged in their psychological make-up and their attitudes towards their job: teach kids v. usher in a revolution.
The closest to political indoctrination I can recall from high school was a current events teacher who said he disagreed with the president on education policy, and quickly added that that was his personal opinion only and that there good arguments on both sides. Is that what it’s like now?

Yes, some of us more recently than others. The point is that the vast majority of parents do not have much choice about sending their kids to the local school. And if you think teachers weren't messed up in the past you are kidding yourself.

One of my classmates had a story from when he was in high school--this was in the early 2000s, so already 20 years ago!--where the teacher had a nervous breakdown, turned off the lights in the class and just made the class sit there in the dark while she cried about how unjust the world was.
