Penn Stater runs this thread
The worse news about this profession: Penn State freezes all new hires. Good luck.
Because I got no job and many I know got no job or ended up in the middle of the desert, your publicity wont work.Dear reader, let's applaud the effort of this mentally handicapped foreigner who is struggling mightily with the English language. I feel as if I am personally witnessing a significantly less eloquent Ahab struggling with the white whale.
Dear reader. Im writing in piglish cause I know ur interested in this profession but please know this profession is run by white fatty worms who are using you to run their corrupt system and milking dollars from as many foreign students as possible injecting top $$ to feed their fatty tuition fees. Its a trap circle. They want to seem they are open to international students but they are racists, haters and losers.
Accounting faculty nationally are beginning to speak out about a huge issue facing the accounting profession - the very low starting salaries in public accounting.
In this vein, I shared the message below with my Kennesaw State colleagues last month. I hope that the leadership of the large accounting firms is listening, as our discipline clearly is in crisis and needs much more attractive compensation to attract and retain talent.
"I am just back from AAA [the American Accounting Association Annual Meeting], and I have never been to an Annual Meeting with such a singular, unofficial “theme” that dominated so many conversations and sessions. Almost universally, people said that their accounting enrollments are down, in many cases way down. Some Master’s programs in accounting and/or tax are getting crushed. And, we know that the number of people taking the CPA exam continues to fall.
The underlying issue is that, in terms of starting pay, accounting has become the lowest-paid major in the business school. On a per hour basis, accounting is even farther behind. It’s tough for many faculty to sell the accounting major with a pitch of, “Stay in school an extra year, take a hard exam, make less money, and work long hours.” Sign me up!
Many good students are majoring in IS or finance instead of accounting and starting for significantly more than what the Big 4 pay MAcc graduates...Further, efforts to highlight the attractiveness of future compensation levels in accounting (e.g., partner, CFO) are not very persuasive to 21 year olds focused on student debt and near-term compensation.
Overall, there was a strong sense among the faculty attendees at AAA that we are in crisis as an academic discipline and that the Big 4 in particular don’t “get it” and are essentially wrecking the profession through their refusal to pay decent salaries to their junior accounting employees..."
From application to admission, to the 1st, 2nd year of the accounting phd program its like seeing drops of water filling up a cup slowly. Then, the 3rd, 4th and 5th year of the phd program looks like a huge amount of water filling up that cup in just 5 mins. The whole point of that is same with exponential functions, like with so many problems we face every day and which by the time we can actually see them its way too late to actually avoid it. At that point our choices are zero and its really just how are we going to manage this thing that is about to slam into your face, body, brain and life. Publication and placement based on publications is money, nothing based in merit. Basically, the publication thing is like the borrowing system which is like stealing the money from the future generations to fund this generation. This is exactly whats going on with the "famous" profs whose names we see many times in Top 3 journals deleting our "useless" names, stealing our future.
I didnt know about this system when I started the program. Now its toooo late. Im in and want out, but where? The question is how to survive. They have build a criminal system and you have to deal with it, with them, becoming a co-"criminal". You have invested a lot in this. Its not wise to get to the accounting phd program in the US. I want out and I will get out of this. I just dont want to share my work with idiots just for their names in my papers. They do nothing but some editing work, thats it. But the system wants their names in your papers, its criminal!
Citations matter but letters matter more. It is nit difficult to tell the quality of a paper if you actually read it.
citations?impact is hard to judge objectively.
What is the tenure standard at top business schools for accounting APs? Is 7-8 As guarantee a tenure? I know for finance this should be enough.Top schools don’t just look at paper count
