OP (and maybe a couple of other trolls), why is it so outrageous to you that there was no backlash after the letter? That's exactly how adults handle things.
The letter demanded nothing substantial anyway, and the press was sensible enough not to release the names the students gave out without any basis. So the best reaction to their juvenile attempt is pretend to be not aware of what they said to the press, set whatever committee to signal that the letter is taken "seriously", and just move on.
Questions for Wisconsin Grad Students

I guess my question for you is what the demand side ought to do. I don’t think it’s totally disqualifying, but people need to understand that signing something like that is a negative signal on the market

I would avoid the activist students who led this at all cost, but it is a rid1culous suggestion that this should be taken as a negative signal to students in the whole department. Again, the letter itself demanded nothing substantial. I for one may have been fooled into signing it if I were there.

It’s negative for you. Signals work both ways. I wouldn’t want to work in a department where my colleagues couldn’t keep their hands to themselves and their pants up.

I have a question, why was EC’s original tweet about the letter deleted? Was there pushbacks ?
A media article shared by JD did mention there are at least three other faculty members. The article didn’t mention the other three names but the students did give them names, suggesting an issue with the department ?
Some posts are saying the letter didn’t ask for anything substantial. Not sure about that. One the of request is to “acknowledge students and faculty have experienced and continue to experience sexual harassment…” and it affects survivors academic performance “ This is a huge ask and indicates a serious problem. If true, this warrants a title IX investigation. If this hasn’t happened, something is off with the letter.

Either there was no evidence or these were false allegations or a combination. RW is likely guilty but the others were likely a witchhunt. It is the worst of all outcomes since everyone is unhappy in the end.

Might have been an issue with non overlapping sets of names too

What a self-destructive show. Well done, Wisconsin grad students. On the positive side, lots of social media attention? Hope it was all worth it.
Beats the alternative of saying nothing and letting creepy dudes be creepy. The field is better, much better, with less creeps.

But nothing has happened ? The accused faculty including RW are still around, aren’t they ?
