US bro here. I’m deadwood, so take this with a grain of salt, but why you young bros always dissing RF as a top journal? At my institution, the APs are all begging for more journals to be added to the A+ list. But you guys want to keep the list to just 3? Or just 3+2 (JFQA and MS)? Why not want 3+3?
I agree. Almost deadwood here myself. Instead of helping each other achieve the job, career, and life stability we are here fighting on which useless journal is more useless. JF is as useless to society as it is RF (or RFS, JFE, JFQA). Let's just admit that and add more good journals to the A list. At this point in my career, I am as unlikely to publish in the Journal of Finance as I am in the JFQA.

RF has used the top 3 obsession to their advantage. The profession needs a #4. JFQA simply accepted to be below top 3 long ago. RF is saying we want to be the 4th top journal but an equal to the top 3.
In the US top 10 schools take Review of Finance very seriously. It is only the lower ranked schools that lack self confidence that count it as A-. At this point go read the papers RF is a solid A.

JCF was corrupt when DC was editor. He published four papers by his buddy JB before his tenure was over. So, let’s not make JCF a gold standard.
Rof has too many shitty papers that are even worse than those published in the jcf! If this problem is not addressed, it will never be respected, regardless of how much promotion you guys made!
