Scandal in Spain: The Prime Minister plagiarised many pages of his PhD thesis
-
bf19> we are all in good universities, and obviously I agree this not a good way to cite a piece of work
But it is a sloppy citation, not a case of plagiarism. I would not fail a student for that, just lower the grade. The grade of Sanchez thesis being a fail anyway, it would not change a lot.
The most important problem is that ABC, while showing the "proofs" of plagiarism, was hiding the fact that there were citations and footnotes. This is libel.

Including references or not has absolutely nothing to do with the copy and paste plagiarism, even a poor rephrasing would be plagiarism. So abc did not lie.
then why did ABC chose to hide the footnotes and the references?
Go back to the examples of the previous page. This is very borderline, the screenshots show everything but the citation. Do you really want to trust the reporting of a journalist doing that?
I really doubt anyone would be in trouble in an unknown private university for such a sloppy citation. You would need to rescind all of their PhDs. Not all universities are MIT, all countries have a lot of third rate universities awarding PhD. Their value is zero but that's another problem.

Agreed. In the end, we all are aware that stomaching courses of internal variety is key to succeeding professionally.
Pedro did take the wrong route and did a PhD.
Nothing like this would have happened had he taken as many IMF courses of internal type as he could have stomached. -
It is funny that one of his ministers resigned a couple of days ago, due to another scandal about a grade manipulation in a masters from another university.
Actually, the head of the right wing party in Spain is under consideration by the supremum court due to a similar problem with the same masters (only worse, since there is doubts that he ever did the masters' thesis, and he got it passed, and there is considerable evidence about several of his colleagues as well). Spanish politicians seem to be exploiting corrupt university centers or using schools with low standards in their benefit. In doing so, they give ammunition to their opposition, I wonder what were they thinking !!!^This.
Spain is a f****g joke. And the ABC / PP (right wing party) are at the culprit. The head of the right-wing party has an ongoing fraud case with all the evidence against him. This is big stuff.
Unfortunatlly, I live in this country, though not for long. Going back to my Latin American country next year, to a better paid job. Rather live there with the (slighlty) higher uncertainty, but otherwise much prefered everything, than in this s**th**e where fascists / franquistas are still in denial. -

WTF. Is this how you defend these guys?
Worse? Please explain as if I were 5.they are left wing populists.
they are marxists.
they believe in flawed economic "theory."
their discourse revolves around rambling about a bunch of random shiz and blaming everything on the rich. -
so bf198, what do you think of the screenshots of ABC, voluntarily hiding the footnotes and references?
Do you think they owe their readers an apology? Is this propaganda or just sloppy journalism?
A bit of both I guess. But they are right in the main message, this is a type of plagiarism in any serious university.

It is true that there are many mediocre thesis in bad schools with similar problems...but the thing is that these guys do not rule a EU country, and do not make their position building on an image of ethical renovation as he has done.
Spain needs more ethical policiticians, but the heads of all political parties seem to fail on ethical grounds. So far, it is difficult to find a trully honest one.

seems we kind of 60% agree in the end.
I have no sympathy for Sanchez. I just hate baseless witch-hunts and, to me, this story is not a story. "PhD from an unknown private Spanish university" is enough, it could not have been better than what we have seen.
