Schiraldi (LSE) and Seiler (Stanford) false coauthors of AER publication
-
Basically like right out of a gangster movie.
Yes, the idea to write an email that belongs to the hall of fame of bullying
I understand that PS liked the paper, especially since he obviously had the main idea for it.
"Nice paper you got there, shame if anything happened to it."

Right. How could this OT guy get away with stealing the main idea of the paper?

Short story:
1.
Pasquale Schiraldi (LSE) and Stephan Seiler (Stanford) threatened OT to add their names to his paper with HS. Otherwise they would impede publication. In writing, too:
https://sites.google.com/site/oyvindthomassen/file-cabinet/Schiraldi_threat.pdf?attredirects=0&d=12.
HS backs OT’s story
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Oad2I-a1SuKesWp0iu84zVuX1CKhuEo2/view
(click three dots > details to see that this is HS is file's owner)3.
SS put in work on a different paper with HS that didn’t work out, so feels he deserved to be in on the HS/OT paper, as he explains here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AhzyKNJzS0vTOTpYZIN8iZPvkUjUKDwQ4.
OT refutes SS' main claim to authorship (that PS/SS came up with 2-stop shopping model) by providing evidence that HS worked on 2-stop shopping before SS and PS got involved)
https://sites.google.com/site/oyvindthomassen/file-cabinet/TSSS_statement_ot_23Dec2018.pdf?attredirects=0&d=15. PS has made no statement.

this is truly my favorite story on the site. im surprised, because i don’t read AER, i don’t know much about the field of the article discussed here, and don’t really care about publishing in top anything.
then again, the funniest part of the story is that there don’t seem to be any serious consequences in spite of clear evidence for highly unethical behavior. that’s how much the profession cares about research. that’s how much the works cares about research in economics.

It is particularly striking because this is not an "EJMR is not a legitimate source of information" story.
Howard - a co-author of the paper with tenure at Oxford - has written a statement detailing clearly how Schiraldi and Seiler have stolen an AER. There has been no denial of the facts by anyone. Seiler has written a statement trying to cover himself, and that's it.
