UT is investing a lot of money into its Economics department. Ackerberg has already joined. Wouldn't be surprised if Lagakos and Ramondo do the same. UT has a bunch of senior offers out. UCSD isn't able to compete with its offers.

Maybe because he doesn't do serious macro theory. He's on the empirical side, which is fine. It's just that he's not a star.
