Don't make the same mistake I did. There are very few positions (about 20 this year) for theory candidates and most of them are filled by candidates from top 10 schools. Remember you are also competing with postdocs and under placed AP in the market. People I know from top 20/30 schools with top field journals only got 3-5 US interviews. Most of us didn't get any academic offer.
Theory JMCs, think thoroughly before taking a postdoc position. The theory market is only going to get worse.

Agree with OP. 5 interviews, 1 academic flyout/offer. I ended up turning down the offer in favor of industry because I didn't feel like I fit at the department (no other theory). People were telling me I should take it and try to move...but who is going to hire me in 2-3 years? There will be even less jobs! A little disappointed, but I'm crying into all my money now.

lol@this. Name one recent theory paper that teaches you something which is both true and non-obvious, and tell us what that something is. You won't be able to do it.
Reg monkeys, even HRM, are not capable of reading theory anymore, even if the theory is actually useful (rare event). The theory is then written for other theorists, which makes it even more difficult to read. This is unfortunately the equilibrium and it is getting worse.
