Seriously, has anyone in econ ever used Python to clean messy datasets from

scratch? Standard data like CRSP, etc, is too easy, but at times we have really messy. I can do that in SAS but I hate doing the cleaning in SAS and then export to Stata/R. I want a single unified environment for doing all tasks from cleaning messy, garbage data to regression to export reg results.

Any experience?

Python great for cleaning and restructuring data (use pandas). But stats and result export support (statsmodels) is less than Stata/R. Less models and options available. I do as much as possible in python, then export data tables to Stata to do the model and tables.

Python sucks!!! Seriously stop it with that meme.

Want full speed, go Julia. Want pre-packaged easy to access stuff go Stata or R, but stop pushing this nonsense language which has the speed of R and the statistical functionality of Cobol
