Does a junior economist need 80w for 3 years to conduct basic research?
This policy shows they are rich, but it's a sh*t policy.

80w seems to be a rumor floating, unconfirmed
80w is confirmed. it's the research funding which you cannot really use it as your own.
Not sure about ShanghaiTech, but a professor at a former 985 told me that the current Xi's policy does not allow a research to pay for his/her own labor out of the fund.

Just done the flyout at ShanghaiTech. A great university with huge potential. I'm 100% sure that Hanming Fang will make it one of the best Biz schools in China. The dean told me that they are expanding to recruit 50 faculties from the top universities in the following period. I'm not sure whether should I go because of the concern in political risk. But I'm pretty sure about the promising future of this university.

I also just finished my job talk there. Based on the feedbacks in my seminar and the interactions with local faculties, I would say this is definitely a top-tier research university in China. Hanming is quite liberal and reasonable, and you could potentially have collaborations with him and other senior faculties. I would strongly recommend PhD and other seasoned AP apply.
