It's the Third World.
Stop say "Global South"
-
Look at the origin of the phrase 3rd world -- it was meant as a positive thing; not aligning themselves with either the US (1st world) or communist Russia (2nd world), but finding a "third way" and remaining neutral in the cold war.
Most of those countries now would very much like to align philosophically with the U.S., but are just 150 years behind in progress. So "third world" doesn't apply.
I vote with Mankiw's "poor countries" (or the more PC "developing world"). Global south would include Australia, so not accurate.

Was going to say this: life in the south is great -- US-level standard of living, Europe-level work ethic.
Life in the south is actually pretty comfy
