Can somebody please summarize the ST-SSS recent dispute? Wading through 46 pages in that thread is so tedious. Yes I am an undergrad, so please spare me the sarcasm.
Summary of ST and SSS
-
HS starts two different but related projects. One is crap, the other one is gold. SS ask to be coauthors of good paper. OT says no. SS make OT an offer he can’t reject. OT agrees, gets pub, gets tenure, then tells the story for EJMRers to discuss enledlessly why Econ Twitter organizes running sessions in Atlanta and complains about harassment.

Any response or repercussions for SS ?
SS responded and wrote a self-serving story where he pretended to be an innocent, poor ragazzo who just wants to do research and write a good paper. He claims he was screwed by the evil conniving HS, who agreed in 2011 to merge the papers but never did.

SSS start working on a project.
A couple of years later, ST start working on a project with a similar but clearly distinct topic.
Progress on ST is more rapid than on SSS, and SSS add some aspects of ST's model into their paper.
ST is ready for submission before SSS. SS and PS worry that the similarity of the papers will reduce the apparent novelty of SSS. This feels unfair to them because SSS was started first. They feel that ST incorporates some ideas from SSS. OT and HS do not agree that ST takes any ideas from SSS.
SS and PS ask to join the two projects into one. HS is ambivalent about the idea, feeling that SS and PS don't have a real claim to coauthorship on ST. OT is opposed because he feels SS and PS didn't contribute to ST.
PS threatens to torpedo ST by complaining to editors at all major journals. Rather than risking this, OT and HS add SS and PS as coauthors. There is a signed agreement.
OT feels upset to be railroaded in this way, and begins to list "previously circulated as ST" on his CV. SS writes him to complain that this violates the spirit of their coauthorship contract, which required everyone to claim (falsely) that all authors contributed equally to TSSS. In response, OT posts materials on his website and EJMR.
