It never ceases to amaze me how, at job interviews, candidates are told things like "must have top 3 finance journals pubs" and then you go to the websites of the people conducting these interviews and see:
No top 3's, no JFQA, no MS, no nothing.
Maybe the existing faculty have a couple of papers in the Australian Journal of Management and then they are conducting these interviews as if Gene Fama and Lars Hansen might not be good enough.

How does it work at UQ? If someone is existing faculty at UQ but they get no top 3's, no JFQA, no MS over a period of, say, 10 years, can they be fired for poor performance? How does it work? I can see that their salary won't go up or they might be told that their teaching loads are going up, but do they lose their jobs? If UQ thinks it can hire people with top 3's when existing faculty have none, what stops UQ firing half their faculty and just getting new people in?

Not true at G5/G8 universities. The standard is more like 3A* on that list ... to get a quasi-permanent position and more to get promoted.

She has only a handful of papers in regional journals such as Accounting and Finance, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, and Australian Journal of Management.
Yet, she is a full professor?

How important is external funding for promotion? If you get funding in an amount similar to your salary, do universities promote you as you are now (net) cost-free?

The short answer is "no." For example, ARC grants are 3 years so they have a short time-span so after 3 years, then what?
External funding is useful but a lot of people in Australian universities never get it.

Yes check UNSW faculty profiles, almost all A/Profs and most Profs have top 3 + MS/JFQA/ROF. This is a place that looks for quality candidates, AND has quality faculty (at least by Australian standards)
