Tenured professor fired despite being cleared by Title IX investigation

No, he takes it to court and loses. He even says she was enrolled while they were in a relationship. While he claims the hours were a “technicality,” she was still a student until she actually graduated. That’s how these things are structured. He’s writing this from the most flattering point of view possible. Don’t you think he looked into it?
You guys are the best. If this was an easy case, he’d of course have filed and won. It’s a sure loser.

What does signing that letter have to do with anything? Obviously Junior has no qualifications for addressing a college audience. He’s inherited money, never accomplished anything significant on his own. I’d sign that letter too. That doesn’t mean I deserve to lose my job over bogus allegations.

My interpretation was that he claimed the timeline was:

1. He takes a trip to a conference and invites the student along.
2. The student completes the requirements of the degree.
3. He begins a relationship with the student.
4. The student formally graduates.

The inquiry initially focused on the trip. He said he voluntarily admitted to the relationship in order to place it in the timeline, and then the inquiry refocused on the fact that that happened before the student formally graduated. It strikes me that if they were questioning him about a trip he took with a student he later ended up in a relationship with, it is reasonable to conclude they knew about that relationship, so him "admitting" it doesn't seem either silly or noble.

His defense is basically that what he did did break the rules, but it wasn't that bad. I see his point, at least based on the facts he presented, but it is a little hard to be super outraged.

If I were an investigator, the question I would really want answered is this: How did he end up in a relationship with a student so shortly after the period when it clearly would have been a problem without any inappropriate behavior during that period? His essay did mention this briefly, but I am guessing there were a lot of questions and answers about this we don't have that might change our minds.

It also seems odd that the essay is presented as anti-title IX, despite the fact that he was cleared by Title IX and still faced problems. The logic of that doesn't quite add up.
