This exactly misses the point. This guy got fired because he had a secret. But he got investigated (and suspended!) because colleagues used the pretext of some anodyne personal conversations as an offense. Easily avoided. I know nothing about my junior colleagues personal lives. I don't need or want to either. Problem solved.
This guy also didn't understand that when you are investigated or involved in a legal process saying less is better. So every question gets a Yes or No answer in the strictest possible interpretation of the question.
