Oh please. P&P’s generally don’t make the kinds of contributions that would be published in the AER and they aren’t refereed. Obviously, there is a lot of unrefereed work not published in the AER - some newspaper articles - that many people will consider more interesting than what is in the AER.
This. Some book chapters are more interesting than regular AER articles. I would take a book chapter over an AER P&P

But how did you get your paper into the P&P? Don’t pretend like there is no review mechanism at all. First, it has to be accepted to the ASSA, after which it has to be chosen for publication out of the many submitted to the P&Ps. What are the chances?
I bet that the people who keep beating up the p&p’s would never be able to publish in oneEh, I have a P&P and was surprised when I realized there is 0 review besides copyediting.
