but then sought a more "equitable" policy for minority students unable to gain entry, eliminating most of its admissions requirements.
Now it's mediocre, and a cautionary tale for U of California.
Are you joking? CUNY regularly produces outstanding alums, going on to excellent institutions in the private sector post graduation. The income gain for students is many multiples over their humble backgrounds. It is a great equalizer and your fear reveals your utter ignorance on the subject. Sorry you lose the opportunity to create another haawaad and that poor brown and black kids are gonna start earning as much as your cousins, must feel bad that you can’t twiddle thumbs at the top of your castle
1930s through the early 1960s it was amazing. The list of distinguished alums is too long to even start. Let me give you one graduate: Ken Arrow. In the 1970s I had several graduates of City College as professors at one of the top universities. They were all first rate.
What happened to City College is a tragedy. I hope the UC system is not going down the same road. I fear they are.
