Thanks welfare state! In a cutthroat economy where their childrens' lives would depend on income they probably would care more. But not sure we'd want that kind of world. I think the general pattern of "men do what women want" is also useful cross sectionally.
Europe: women care more about looks -> 30% youth unemployment and stagnation.
Asia/Jewish culures: women care more about money -> 60-hour work weeks and growth.
