There are some abysmal towns in the UK
The worst college town in terms of quality of life without a doubt is

One more thing. Even though it is literally in the middle of nowhere, housing in state college can be a lot more expensive than you would think, after adjusting for quality.
I think the situation for low-end housing is indeed bad; there are a lot of lousy rentals around for students that cost more than they should. But when you want to buy a house it's basically reasonable, only a little more than the national average. I paid 350k for a nice place walkable to campus just a couple years ago, good luck doing that most places.

Pick any city like Los Angeles or any other city. Move to the suburbia. Live the American dream.
Basically if you move to the middle-of-nowhere areas, somebody or the other in your family will eventually die from medical mistakes or diagnostic medical errors made by incompetent rural doctors. I am a physician myself.

100% a joke. It's not a real thing.
Provo.
If you drink coffee, you are ostracized. Not just by your colleagues and others at BYU but by most people in Provo. Not sure about that considering that people at byu have certain customs that bring people together and enhance QoL.
For example, from what I've heard there are these 2 things called soaking and jump buddies that is the epitome of solidarity and helping friends out. For the dominant religion at that university there are certain activities that are 100% forbidden before marriage. BUT, the religion doesn't forbid them from taking their clothes off and getting on top of each other and it doesn't forbid inserting "it" because the forbidden activity involves repeated thrusting (only then is it forbidden). How does the community come together to help these 2 desperate souls in need of a release? You get a jump buddy. A friend who will jump on the bed so that... you get the idea. Friends helping out friends. In a weird way. I heard about this once and thought that it was a joke. Then I heard about another time and can only conclude that its possible that this happens or that its an elaborate joke that people at BYU tell everyone.
Another one is that they don't really have a good way of "showing the goods" in public because of how their religion works and rules and what not. So, supposedly, people get together and organize parties where they all take their clothes off and guys stand on one side and girls stand on the other side and you get to see the "goods".
I'm still on the fence of whether these stories are real or an elaborate prank they tell other people but if true then its an example of the community coming together to fix certain problems they have. -
Lol at anyone saying “any place is better than New York” you can’t drink the water in some town.
let's chat again when you have children :).
Most of the places listed here, your kids are way more at risk from both environmental and criminal factors than New York or DC. It’s not like the schools in port Arthur or Brownsville are any good
