All of these concepts assume that the losers will be compensated. In practice the gainers in the US don't redistribute the gains to the losers from trade or immigration, unlike in a country like Qatar. They c0rruptly br1be (via "campaign contributions") C0ngress to allow them to h0ard all of the gains. It is therefore rational for the losers to demand an end to the free trade and immigration even if it means a smaller total pie.
