I think your timeline is a bit off. They could have returned them before the judge got involved, or perhaps not have taken them in the first place. It's not like they didn't have time, or the responsibility, to look at what they were confiscating. It's hard to see how medical records, dating back long before ts term in office, fall under the scope of the warrant.
