The PhD program is dysfunctional. The chair DS has no clue what the students are up to. I have heard many stories where 4th/5th year students are just lost and have no guidance. There is zero structure. Faculty are unresponsive of student emails. Course work is outdated by probably 50 years (which may be true in general for other departments as well).

One bitter person trying to kill 2 great tenure cases and two good midterm reviews for perceived slights from these individuals that were all up the same year. Luckily the committee and AHR were able to intervene, but one person made everyone’s life a living hell for an entire semester. Research was not done and teaching suffered.
