Making a mistake that was insensitive or non-inclusive doesn't mean that you are defined as being insensitive or non-inclusive. It sucks to be called out, but just apologize, learn from it, and do better next time.

Now I realize they singlehandedly destroyed it by making everything about emotion/fairness and not about seeking truthThis is misplaced. First, the problem is not Academia, but Twitter. 99% of people who tweet the most have zero impact in real world academia. Second, this argument would imply that race only became a thing because there are too many non-white people in academia, which is not true. It is always the same group of people --- whoever they may be --- manifesting religious fundamentalism in social issues.
Race became a thing because of women allies, the Coalition of the Officially Oppressed.
If you cannot see the gender undertones of these development, you’re ngmi as a social scientist:
1. Poll after poll shows women care much less for freedom of speech, due process and other “white male” principles.

Intersectionality is a punching bag to some of us, but it works in practice in devious ways.
One more thought: you can count on one hand the number of people who have done more to make econometrics accessible than JW. Whether it's the textbooks, his summer microeconometrics mini-course, his contributions to Statalist, his participation in the AEA Minority summer training, etc. The man takes teaching very seriously in a way that not everyone in his positions does.

Guess who wouldn’t want more female in the profession. If incentives matter, since we know they matter, an average female econ wants less diversity (hence fewer female colleagues) but uses diversity sword to slain everyone competing against her in publication and funding.

It's easy, just don't tweet nonsense. It cuts both ways: one wrong tweet by a senior white male, and that career is ruined. In relative terms, Twitter gives nobodies a higher marginal power increase.

Why doesn't McLaren & co. ask the women who were invited why they turned it down? If they really want to be supportive of women, shouldn't they be focusing on the reasons why these women decided not to participate, and then working on addressing these issues instead? Or creating a more supportive female community so that women who were invited and for some reason decided to turn it down, could have recommended other women instead? That's what I call a supportive and inclusive female environment, isn't it?
Instead all they do is focus on the most prominent male (Woolridge) in the all-male panel and direct their misguided accusations towards him.
