USC and Stanford inching up, evidence that public universities are finally giving up?
Well, by this ranking Berkeley is moving up. For example, it was only 33 in the 2001-2005 rankings but 22 in the 2005-2009 rankings. Besides, Michigan is 6th so there is a public school in the top 10. Well, looking at it more there are two other public schools in the top ten: Maryland at 7th and Texas at 10th. Don't these rankings fail face validity?
No, I don't think the top 15 cares where they rank on the UTD list. But having an objective list is nice inside a business school. At most schools Management and other departments game multiple A's and call wherever they publish an A, while Finance sticks with JF, JFE, RFS. Clueless Dean's figure Management has 10 A-Journals and rewards. The UTD Dean, or so I have heard, has a severe step function. Publish in these and get rewarded or elsewhere and not. Not really interpreting scholarship, but and objective standard is nice sometimes.
I like how they rank the schools then highlight the number 16 spot - UT dallas.
What a joke.
In my school (top 50 - 100), A journals are JF, JFE, RFS, top 5 econ journals, and some other prestigious econ journals such as JME, JET, J Econometrics and Rand. I think the reason why Rand is included is that Rand is a top journal in marketing or accounting(?).
I think this standard is better than that of UT-Dallas.
