I'm sad that my graduate alma mater, once the bastion of free speech and thought (even in its cruelty) has devolved to this state.
University of Chicago English: Only "Black Studies" applicants to be admitted

The US has its Nazi science moment. It will probably never recover. Golden opportunity for whoever wants to be the new beacon of knowledge.
And who would that be? Are there still sane reasonably-sized countries out there? Chile in the Americas, UK and Switzerland in Europe, Israel, Japan, and South Korea in Asia, and possibly Aussies. I may be too optimistic about some of these, but I don't think I missed any potential future beacons of knowledge, broadly defined (i.e., not just in some specific categories).
-
Can somebody launch a petition for the mostly white s/c/u/m of this department to (i) cancel themselves and resign so as to make room for black faculty
and
(ii) leave the land stolen from native american indians on which they live?If you start a petition on change.org, and make it sound reasonably earnest, I will sign it under my real name.

Other "western" countries are just as f/u/c/k/e/d up, they are orbiting around the US, just like "popular democracies" were USSR satellites.
How about Malaysia, Kazakhstan, UAE, India, Russia, Singapore? -
They did not do anything against diversity statement
I remember all those threads in the past about them
"They just want to know if you can teach people who look different than you"
"No one cares about them, you are all being dramatic"And then
And notice how the defense of diversity statements changed when it turned out they became important

Even for EJMR this is a moment of unadulterated denial and self-delusion. For centuries, a segment was systematically and informally deprived of almost *all* opportunities. Now, when a single program announces its intent to focus on that segment (rightly so except for being almost irreparably late), the result is predictable.
And demonstrated in this thread. -
Are you Blk? If not, I invite you to resign from your professional role(s)/job to make space for someone in that segment who was systematically and informally deprived of almost *all* opportunities. It would be rightly so except for being almost irreparably late.
I'm waiting to hear your resignation announcement on Twitter.

And demonstrated in this thread. What's delusive is believing the evil cultural marxists have any more compassion for the "deprived of all opportunities" than, say, the USSR had for some people's liberation front in Africa they were sponsoring.
Plus, lumping together contemporary people with some individuals in a remote past on the basis of some shared DNA is utterly racist and stupid. -
It's interesting to see this will only be for the upcoming cycle.
Two things I won't be surprised at all to see:
1) Most admits are not African Americans, and there is a fall in admits of international students from developing countries.
2) Applicants wanting to work on Black Studies being denied admission in future years because of an excessive number of students working on the topic.

I come from a country that allowed and has been destroyed by the spread of socialism and marxism throughout society. It starts in academia, specifically in the humanities and some fringe organizations, nobody says anything because it is irrelevant, then spreads to social sciences, then to law school and the judicial system, this is where it gets serious. And finally, to every aspect of society, it is a cancer and as such it has to be extirpated before it grows too much and kills a country.

Bros, America has been going down the toilet for half-a-century.
There is no political or cultural will to mount a defense against the wokelatariat; the sooner you come to terms with the reality that the political, economic, and academic elite support weaponizing identity to demoralize and dispossess the productive and civilizing class - read: wh/ite males - of precisely those things that enriched Americans culturally and materially, the sooner you can get on with the business of preparing for the fractious - and probably violent - localism that awaits us.
You would do well to study post-apartheid South Africa.

I suppose free speech doesn't extend to the department's faculty and how they choose to train their students?
While I question whether this decision will tangibly benefit the lives of Black people, I have no real major issue with this (I don't study English, so...). Departments regularly reject applicants if they don't think they're a proper fit given their research interests. What UChicago English is doing is exactly that, albeit to its extreme (only considering applicants with a specific research agenda).

"It is only in the Humanities"

Is this Venezuela? Nicaragua? Maybe even Argentina?

We have been trying hard to recruit candidates who can contribute to the intellectual and social diversity of our college. Get a grip, man.

Do you really actually believe the majority of the department's faculty is happy with this?
I suppose free speech doesn't extend to the department's faculty and how they choose to train their students?
