To say that they are both weirdos would be a massive understatement. Both of them seem to have serious mental problems.
Places like Exeter are very unstable. People leave all the time.
This means lots of job talks. The hod insists that you attend them all. If you don’t, you will be in trouble.
You will be bothered with teaching issues. If you student are not very happy with your lectures, you will need to spend time to write a letter to some guy to explain how you plan to make your spoiled students happy...and so on...
Exeter can ruin careers...

he's simply just not good enough, the R&R in Econometrica wouldn't have ever happen without his co-authors. people should stop just counting beans without putting the slightest attention on how those beans ended up there in the first place.
